Alpha Herculis (α Her / α Herculis) is a star in the constellation Hercules. It also has the traditional name Ras Algethi or Rasalgethi, and the Flamsteed designation 64 Herculis.
There are two components, α1 and α2. α1 is a double star system with a primary relatively massive red supergiant or bright giant star and a closer companion. α2 is a double star system with a primary yellow giant star and a secondary F dwarf star.
This star's mass is on the border that explodes as a supernova or not.
The traditional name comes from Arabic Rasalgethi from Rās al-Jathi "head of the kneeling one".
Ras Algethi has a diameter approximately 460 times greater than the Sun, and is located at a distance of 550 LY | (169 pc) .
