Alpena Light
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Alpena Light is a lighthouse on Lake Huron near the center of Alpena, Michigan. It marks the entrance to the Thunder Bay River from the lake. The current lighthouse, built in 1914, replaced an earlier wooden structure which had been in use since 1875.
The current light is merely a weather-protected structure on a steel frame. The size of the light is probably deceptive in the picture; note the ladder from the base so there clearly is room inside the case for a keeper to maintain the lighthouse and change the bulbs.
