[edit] ACOTW

Thanks for correcting my brain-fade on Wikipedia talk:Article of the week. I thought "collaboration" but my fingers typed "challenge" for some reason (... twice ... - at least I got it right in Village Pump)

Time for a holiday :) -- ALoan (Talk) 14:26, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Sorry that I had to edit your comments there, in clear violation of wikietiquette, but I felt I had to do it that way for clarity sake.
Have a good holiday. :-)

[edit] St Edward

I think that King Edward's Chair is indeed named for St Edward. That "King Edward's Chair" might strike one as odd, as the crown is "St Edward the Confessor's Crown." -- Emsworth 16:23, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

But:The chair was made for King Edward I; Saint Edward the Confessor had been long dead and could never have sat upon it; the chair did however sit in the shrine of Saint Edward the Confessor so could have derived its name from that. Both names are probably correct but being Wikipedia we have to be sure, which is the true name.Incidentally St Edward's crown was not made untill the 17th. century Giano 19:50, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] categorisation

No rush here, but I have some issues with your categorisation of cricketers. Firstly, I think they ought to be in the top level, e.g. Secondly, I find the terms such as "English bowlers" ambiguous as I think that should be reserved for somebody who plays bowls. If we look at what happens elsewhere, it might be an idea to put Steve Harmison in category:English cricketers and category:bowlers (cricket) say. What do you think? [edit] Cricket (sport)

No problem - I find doing this kind of thing rather relaxing, so feel free to mention other tasks that need doing in future :-) Regards Kate Turner | Talk 05:17, 2004 Sep 2 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the formatting in Livestock

Aloan, you read my mind. I was looking at other lists to find an example with better formatting and you rescued the Prerequisites list while I was searching.

I used your example to improve the uses/benefits section as well.

Cheers --DV 09:54, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Units / X-ray astronomy

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on my talk page. I have responded there. Bobblewik  (talk) 14:43, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Medallion

Thanks for the medallion, forever treasured; although I can't phantom the history behind it in wikipedia sense. Would you be kind enough to explain? Thanks :) [[User:Nichalp|¶ ɳȉčḩåḽṗ | ]] 20:29, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Edit attribution

Hi again. Edits from 193.128.231.252 and 80.229.137.127 have now been reattributed to you. Regards Kate Turner | Talk

[edit] Exploding whale renomination

Hi Aloan! After several more objections were resolved, I've renominated this article. Could you revote? Thanks mate. - Ta bu shi da yu 16:55, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] BCs vs BCEs

Hi ALoan. Yes, I think there is a trend of replacing BCs (Before Christ) with BCEs (Before Current Era), and ADs (Annus Domini) with CEs (Current Era) in order to avoid a strong Christian orientation in datation. Regards.PHG 23:06, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hi ALoan. You're essentially right of course. I have seen a lot of discussions on that subject, I think it is a Wiki rule now, and it seems there are robots making the change automatically sometimes (but I couldn't tell you where the relevant discussions are now). I shifted a few months ago to the new system. After a while, it's OK :-), and I kind of like the improved (but to your point, not perfect) neutrality. Regards.PHG 23:39, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Breastfeeding

Thanks for you wp:fac comments on breastfeeding - you've highlight numerous issues. You seem to know quite a bit and any contributions or further thoughts would be much appreciated, should you have the time. I'll work on the article and try to develop it some more. Cheers. violet/riga (t) 10:06, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship

Would you accept a nomination for adminship? [[User:Neutrality|Neutrality (talk)]] 22:17, Oct 2, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] You're an admin!

I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. Congratulations!. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 15:34, 11 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks! And many thanks to all those who voted for me. I promise to do my best to use my new powers (such as they are) wisely. -- ALoan (Talk) 19:02, 11 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Apologies!

Sorry about my ratty comments on the UKCOTW to do list page - explanation and another apology on the talk page there. Congratulations on your Adminship! Jerry 15:00, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia study

Would you be interested in being interviewed about your work on the Wikipedia?

As part of a research project conducted by the Electronic Learning Communities group at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, we are conducting a study of the Wikipedia. The purpose of this study is to explore the online community of the Wikipedia by investigating who contributes to the Wikipedia and why.

To that end, we would like to interview people who write, edit, and comment on the articles that make up the Wikipedia. Study participants agree to be interviewed about their experiences with the Wikipedia. The interview can be face-to-face (if you are in the Atlanta area), on the telephone, or via email, whichever is most comfortable and convenient for you. Participation is voluntary and can be discontinued at any time with no reason given.

If you think you might be interested, more information about the study, including how to volunteer, is available at:

http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~susanb/wikistudy.html

If you are not interested, there is no need to reply to this message, and we thank you for your time. Ikenindy 23:15, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)
