There are 37 standard maps to choose from, 10 player characters, and 8 weapons with alternate fires, and a grappling hook. The game is powered by the Quake II engine based CRX Engine, which features 32 bit hi-res texture support, shaders, textured particles, stainmaps, reflective water, light bloom, real-time dynamic vertex lighting, and other modern effects, all of which can be turned on or off in the menu. Also featured is an easy to use internal server browser for finding other people to play online and the external Code Red Galaxy program.

Alien Arena features standard Deathmatch, similar in style to Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament. Also included are Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, and All Out Assault, which features vehicles in which players can enter and fight from. There are six game mutators (excessive, instagib, rocket arena, vampire, regen, and low grav) which can alter the game to play differently. All modes can be played online against other players or offline against the bots, which can be customized using an external program included with the installation of the game. Alien Arena is suitable for matches as low as 2 players, or as high as 32, depending on the map chosen.

[edit] Community

Alien Arena has a community based on the servers, in the COR Forums and the #alienarena IRC channel on EFnet IRC where there are always people to help with problems, answer questions, and just chat with. Clans are forming and having matches, but more clans are highly encouraged to come play.

[edit] Tournaments

The #alienarena IRC channel holds Martian Mayhem Tournaments every Sunday at 6:00 PM EDT(-5 GMT). To participate in these tournaments, a player should be in IRC 30 minutes before play time to warm up and get the server password. These tournaments currently consist of one 20 minute Deathmatch which counts towards the tournament ladder and one fun round that uses a different game mode or mutator each week.
