Alientrap

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alientrap is a team of game developers that develops free software games. They make games for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and several other operating systems.

[edit] History

Alientrap was started in Summer 2002 by Lee Vermeulen, with the development of Nexuiz. Originally, the roadmap of the team was to make a small, fun deathmatch to give the team experience called Nexuiz, then the team would move on to more ambitious projects. However, Nexuiz had become a large and ambitious project.

Once Nexuiz was released, Alientrap started a new project, Zymotic. Zymotic is a single-player first-person shooter still in development. But Nexuiz hasn't been abandoned; it's still being maintained today.

So far, every project has been a first-person shooter that uses the DarkPlaces engine (which was developed by a current team member).

Nexuiz made the Games page of Slashdot on release, but never the front page. However, Nexuiz 2.0's release made the digg frontpage.
