Alien music
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alien music is a genre of music based on the principle that music does not have to follow a standard pattern consisting of 12 notes per octave. Unlike Indian music that explores this option further than Western music, alien music does not have a set number of notes and does not have octaves. A typical music piece consists of a number of notes put together in a pattern that creates a certain atmosphere or builds up a feeling.
Alien music is played on fretless electric string instruments. Because a lot of this music is hard to comprehend to a regular human ear, most of it is played very quickly, so that people focus on the atmosphere the music builds rather than individual notes.
Playing alien music requires an extensive technical skill, similar to the one possessed by Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius, the two musicians that served as an inspiration to creation of this style.
