Alhana Starbreeze is a fictional character from the Dragonlance series of novels. She was first introduced in Dragons of Winter Night as the daughter of Speaker of the Stars Lorac Caladon.[1] She has one cousin, Kiryn, who played a minor role in the War of Souls.[2] She was once Speaker of the Stars, but was exiled and stripped of the title. She has been described as having soft black hair, white skin, deep purple eyes, and full red lips.[3]

[edit] The War of the Lance
During the War of the Lance, a campaign is led by the Dragonarmies of Ansalon against the Silvanesti. Lorac Caladon exiles his people to Southern Ergoth, with Alhana leading them. Alhana goes to Tarsis, a city where the Heroes of the Lance happen to be in at the same time. There, she is refused aid and is told to leave. When she does not, she is arrested and brought before a court headed by the Lord of Tarsis.[4] The Heroes of the Lance are being tried at the same time. She meets Sturm Brightblade there, who helps when she is mistreated by guards. He is instantly smitten by her, while she also has feelings for him. She gives him a Starjewel, a special jewel that is a profession of love among elves. The Heroes of the Lance, along with Alhana, are ordered to jail. En route, they are rescued by a group of Knights of Solamnia.[5] Later, when the city of Tarsis is under attack, Sturm saves her. She repays the favor by rescuing the Heroes of the Lance with her griffins and taking them to Silvanesti.[6] Alhana and the Heroes of the Lance enter the horrific Silvanesti Dream, which is the tortured state brought about by the crazed elf king Lorac when he tried to use a Dragon orb. In the dream, she is captured by the green dragon Cyan Bloodbane. The dragon tries to make Lorac kill her, but he cannot. The Heroes of the Lance defeat the dream and free Lorac, who soon dies.[7]Alhana stays in Silvanesti and waits, eventually seeing a living, healthy tree growing over her father's grave. After this, she departs.[8]She later marries Porthios Kanan for political reasons and with him they eradicate the dream from Silvanesti.
[edit] After the War
Although Alhana married Porthios for politics, she grows to love him and bears his child, Silvanoshei. Porthios and Alhana are condemned by the Elven Senates of Qualinesti and of Silvanesti and declared dark elves; they manage to escape thanks to Dalamar and Tanis Half-Elven. Later in that year, Alhana gives birth to her son in Solace.
[edit] The Chaos War
Alhana went into hiding with her son during the war, while Porthios fought a fire dragon summoned by Chaos. He was presumed dead in the battle, however it was later revealed he lived with disfigurement.
[edit] The War of Souls
When the shield over Silvanesti fell during the War of Souls and Alhana discovered that her son Silvanoshei had become Speaker of the Stars, she immediately went into Silvanesti and sent messengers to contact him. He is rescued by them, but he escapes and pursues Mina, a woman who bears tidings of the "One God" (really Takhisis) and with whom he is smitten. Alhana then meets up with Gilthas, the king of Qualinesti (the cousin nation to Silvanesti). They make the decision to march to Sanction, where Silvanoshei has gone. En route, they are attacked by a massive ogre army. When all seems lost, they are rescued by good dragons. The elves joined the dragons and flew to Sanction to participate in the battle. Alhana later learns that Mina has slain Silvanoshei. After overcoming her grief, she abdicates the throne to Gilthas, making him both Speaker of the Stars and Speaker of the Suns. She then leaves; her current whereabouts are unknown.
