Algarve United Football Club, commonly abbreviated to Algarve United, is an association football (soccer) club based in Loulé, Algarve, Portugal. They are nicknamed "the Lynxes", after the threatened Iberian Lynx which inhabits the area.

The club was founded in 2004 by Corrado Correggi, (a local businessman who amassed a fortune making corks for fine wine), in partnership with his Scottish father-in-law, John McGovern. Both men are also successful football agents. The club was previously managed by legendary former English player Paul Gascoigne.

From the club's debuting season, Algarve United began rapidly progressing up the league ladder, and hope eventually to become large enough to take over the Estádio Algarve as their home stadium. The stadium was built for the 2004 European Football Championship, but currently stands empty, as no local side can afford to take it on.

[edit] Current squad

For the 2006-2007 season the team signed former Portuguese international and Sporting Clube de Portugal, F.C. Porto and S.L. Benfica player Emílio Peixe, as a coach.
