Alfred Dyke Acland

Colonel Alfred Dyke Acland (b. 19 August 1858- d. 1937 aged 78) was a distinguished military officer.
He was the son of Sir Henry Wentworth Acland. He married Hon. Beatrice Danvers Smith, daughter of Rt. Hon. W. H. Smith of the newsagents dynasty on 30 July 1885.
Alfred Dyke Acland gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1910 in the service of the Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry (Territorial Army). He was commander of the Base Depot Remounts in 1915. He held the office of Assistant Director, Labour in 1917. He was decorated with the Croix de Guerre. He was invested as a Knight of Justice, Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He was Labour Commandant of the Australian Corps in 1918. He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1920. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for Devon.
