[edit] SPAM is not welcome
SPAM is not welcome on Wikipedia. Adding commercial messages in spoken articles is rude, crass, and is costing volunteers time and effort to go in and rip back out again - but be assured it IS being ripped back out again.
I'm sure you'd be less than thrilled if several 1000 Wikipedians decided to Spam your blog. What made you think it was acceptable to spam US? - Beowulf314159 04:42, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- And if, in the future, you have the courage of your convictions, try it in a public debate, right here, rather than quietly emailling me offline so no one else can see the "quality" of your moral arguments in your defense that you have a "right" to spam because of the effort you expend for the "benefit" of Wikipedia.
- However, I'm quite sure that my original comment (which you edited out and I've reverted), and this rejoinder, will likewise "myseteriously vanish" once again.

I've also noted that the random selection of your audio "contributions" that I "spot-checked" have all been de-spammed by other people.

- Hi Alex Killby. While Beowulf may sound a bit harsh, he is right that Wikipedia is not the place to plug your blog. Spoken Wikipedia articles should be held to the same standard that its written articles are, and WP:ISNOT clearly states that advertising has no place here. We appreciate your contributions, and I think that your recordings are valuable for the encyclopedia, but please do not upload more recordings mentioning your blog. It just creates more work for others! ~MDD4696 02:24, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Mdd4696 for clearing it up, Beowulf314159, I guess I was just a bit frustruated, I've had a terrible day. I'm kinda new to Wikipedia, and I do not understand the entirety of It's workings. Beowulf, you were rather hostile in your first comment, which kinda set me off. Perhaps if you had explaiend it a bit less harshly I would have understood. I have no problem, and I would still like to Contribute to Wikipedia. I'll try to ignore your harshness and move on. Mdd4696 did a much better job explaining this, and I thank you for that. - I'm glad to hear that you're still looking to contribute. You will probably still run into conflicts in the future, but I've found that the majority of people here are reasonable and willing to work together to improve Wikipedia. I've also found that it's very important to be precise with your language--with written communication it is very easy to misunderstand others!

- I admit there is a lot to read as a newcomer, but don't let that put you off. The only way you can really get to know the ropes is by editing, and mistakes are easily reverted. If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page! ~MDD4696 03:09, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Spoken Wikipedia Recordings
Hello again. I don't know if you've been able to take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia/Recording guidelines yet, but when you record your articles, could you end them with "This sound file and all text in the article are licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License, available at www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html" or the equivalent for the license you use? It signals the listener that the article is over... otherwise it feels like we've been left hanging. Thanks! ~MDD4696 03:33, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sure! Thanks for the heads up :) Alexkillby 03:34, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hey
Nice accent and good pronunciation! :) I've heard the Freedom Tower .ogg you recorded and it was quite good. One point, though: when you make a mistake, you shouldn't IMO correct yourself and say your sorries. If you're in such a position, you should programatically erase all errors. That way, the spoken article would seem flawless. If you don't have an apropriate audio software, I recommend Sound Forge (if you use Windows). If you use Linux, I don't know what you could use because I'm quite new to the OS myself. :D Cheers and keep up with the good work. --Filip (ยง) 14:04, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
