[edit] Lineage
This article states that Alexandre de Cassini was the "grandnephew" of Giovanni Domenico Cassini, but I'm pretty sure he is his great-great-grandson. This is the lineage as far as I know:
- Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712; a.k.a. Jean-Dominique)
- Jacques Cassini (1677-1756; Cassini II)
- César-François Cassini de Thury (1714-1784; Cassini III)
- Jacques Dominique, comte de Cassini (1748-1845; Cassini IV)
- Alexandre de Cassini (1781-1832)
- Jacques Dominique, comte de Cassini (1748-1845; Cassini IV)
- César-François Cassini de Thury (1714-1784; Cassini III)
- Jacques Cassini (1677-1756; Cassini II)
Does one of the sources have a different lineage? Mike Dillon 08:34, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- I just checked two sources (The Story of Maps and The Mapmakers) and both of them confirmed the lineage above. Maybe the confusion is related to the fact that Giovanni Cassini's nephew Giacomo Filippo Maraldi also worked with him and Cassini II on the Paris meridian. Mike Dillon 08:50, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- There also seems to be good information on this site. I'm going to change the article. Mike Dillon 09:00, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
