Alexander Joseph McGavick

Alexander Joseph McGavick (August 22, 1863August 25, 1948) was the fourth Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse in Wisconsin. He was born in Fox Lake, Illinois, and was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood on June 11, 1887, for the Archdiocese of Chicago. On December 2, 1898, he was appointed auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago and was ordained a Roman Catholic bishop on May 1, 1899. On November 21, 1921, Bishop McGavick was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse. Bishop McGavick died in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Bishop McGavick was the founder of Aquinas High School in La Crosse.
