Alexander Adams (Hawaii)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Captain Alexander Adams was a British sailor and is regarded as one of the founders of modern Hawaii. [1]

In the early nineteenth century, he settled in the Kingdom of Hawaii, where Kamehameha I placed the small kingdom's navy under his charge.

He lived the remainder of his life in the Hawaiian islands, married several times, and left many descendants. He is traditionally credited with designing the flag of Hawaii[citation needed], though this honor has also been claimed for another British sailor, George Beckley.

Adams was born in 1780 in Arbroath, Forfarshire, Scotland and died in Niu, Oahu, Hawaii, in 1870.
