Alex Tanguay (born November 21, 1979, in Sainte-Justine, Quebec) is a professional ice hockey player.

Tanguay plays left wing and centre. He was drafted 12th overall in the first round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Tanguay started playing for the Avalanche in 1999 and played for them until 2006, when he was traded to the Calgary Flames. He won the Stanley Cup in 2001. His best seasons were 2000-01 when he had 77 points, 2003-04 when he had 79 points and 2005-06 during which he pulled up a 78-point effort. In the 2003-04 season, Tanguay was leading the league in points scoring from the start of the season for a long time, until he was sidelined with a bad injury that deprived him of the chance to compete for his first league scoring title. Tanguay's first NHL goal was scored 8 October 2000 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He finished his rookie season second in rookie scoring with 51 points. Across 450 regular season games, he has scored 137 goals and 263 assists for an impressive 400 points.

In the 2000-01 season, the finals series pitted the Colorado Avalanche against the New Jersey Devils. In a best of 7 series, Colorado won game six 4-0 to tie the overall series score at 3-3, resulting in a game 7 that would determine the winner of the Stanley Cup. Alex Tanguay got the final goal in that 4-0 victory. In game 7 of the series, Tanguay scored the opening two goals in a 3-1 Avalanche victory, ensuring he and his Avalanche teammates got Stanley Cup winners rings on their fingers. He scored the game-winning, decisive goal that ensured the Stanley Cup victory for the Colorado Avalanche. The first goal was off a wraparound that beat New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur into the top right corner of his net, the second a tap-in whilst he was falling, off a Joe Sakic rebound. He finished the playoffs with a creditable 21 points in 23 games that year (6 goals, 15 assists).

On June 24, 2006, during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Tanguay was traded to the Calgary Flames for Jordan Leopold, a second-round pick, and a conditional draft pick in either 2007 or 2008.

Alex Tanguay faced the Colorado Avalanche on November 28, 2006 for the first time since being dealt to the Flames as he notched a goal and an assist.
