Alevrada

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alevrada (Greek: Αλευράδα) is a small village of Greece located in the North West part of the prefecture named Aetolia and Acarnania near the dam of the river Achelous and the artificial lake Kremasta.

The village belongs to the municipality of Inachos of the Valtou province. Its population is about 150 inhabitants.

The altitude of the village is at 573 m.

Alevrada is located on the provincial Road 38|GR-38]] which connects Agrinio with Karpenisi as well as with Lamia. Alevrada has boundaries with the communities of Petrona to the West and Triklino (previously Priantza) to the East. The Acheloos River divides the area of the village from Tatarna Evrytania's prefecture and Chouni Trichonida's province. The construction of the Kremasta dam (see below) over the Acheloos River caused a dramatic decrease of the population of the area since most of the cultivated area covered with water. In the area of Kremasta (where the famous "jump of Katsantoni") the Greek Electric Company (ΔΕΗ) constructed a huge dam (160 m) over the famous mineral thermal springs. After the construction, the mineral water flowed down of the dam and sprang again at a place known to the local people as Gria Maria.

Over the dam passes the road which connects Alevrada with Chouni of Trichonida's province. The road is in a bad condition. A new road that will connect Alevrada with Evrytania through Tatarna's Bridge is under construction.
