[edit] Articles

Hi. Are the articles on Bellakar, Anarikê, and Sakal an-Khâr taken from published RPG materials or predominantly fan creations? Either way I think you are heading for trouble here. Blanking Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bellakar (2) is against Wikipedia policy that such discussions not be edited and someone is doubtlessly going to come along and unblank it. The same is true of removing the 'article for deletion' notice from Bellakar... it will just be re-inserted. You need to make a case for why these articles should be included in Wikipedia first. From the looks of things they are copied directly from a password protected fan-group... which may involve copyright issues. Even if the material isn't copyrighted it'll still be challenged on grounds of 'notability' and verifiability since the source materials are not publically available.

What is your goal in putting this info on Wikipedia? Might it be better served hosting the data somewhere else? --CBD 14:19, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

The problem is that Wikipedia has a number of policies and procedures which these articles don't work well with. Check the links in my message above. It is not uncommon for fan works of any sort to be deleted on the grounds that it is not of general encyclopedic interest. In this case there are also problems with verifying the accuracy of any information coming from a restricted site and potential copyright problems. Also, deletion discussions are open. There is currently one going on here. --CBD 13:09, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copying and pasting

Please don't just copy and paste text from other websites. Not only is Wikipedia an encyclopaedia, but we are an encyclopaedia that strives to avoid violating the copyright of other people. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 13:42, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

You're not listening. Do not just copy and paste text from other websites. Wikipedia is not a dumping ground for whatever you can find on the web, especially copyrighted text that doesn't belong to us. Do I make myself clear? fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 02:10, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Message from Quaque

Look, I know you're probably passionate about these works of fiction, but deletion policy is strict about stuff like this. Like I have said, I think these are not appropriate. Re-posting content is not usually allowed unless there is significant evidence of why it should. Vandalism isn't very helpful either. Read some of our policies. I hope you eventually understand, because I have been following the deletion process since June 2004 and it is very tough process, especially for newer users. I hate it myself, as I have seen many of my articles deleted. I am generally an inclusionist, but there is limits to what I consider for inclusion.

Plus remember to sign your posts instead of copying other people's signature, as that can be mistaken for impersonation attempts. You are of course welcome to contribute to the existing Lord of the Rings articles. QQ 13:53, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mailing List

I put info on the mailing list in the MERP and Lord of the Rings Role-playing articles, as well as on Portal:Middle-earth. If you'd like we could also make a list of Middle-earth mailing lists and periodicals, but that might get deleted as well. --CBD 22:39, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I saw it. A list of mailing lists and periodicals could be done later. Thank you
