Template talk:Album infobox soundtrack
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums for guidance on the use of album infoboxes
I adapted this infobox from the regular infobox to address the fact that soundtracks don't need things like chronology, but does need to list the artist(s), and also to just to make formatting more appropriate.

[edit] Listing the artist(s)?
At first, I thought it would be good to list the artists involved, but now I'm not as sure. It is useful for soundtracks like UHF - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Other Stuff where there is only one artist, but seems less useful at Wayne's World 2 (soundtrack).
There are three options, as far as I can tell:
- list them all (or just the sole artist if that's the case)
- remove the parameter so that the infobox doesn't say anything about the artist(s)
- list when there's one artist and write "Various" where there are many, such as Singles (soundtrack album).
These three soundtracks, UHF, WW2, and Singles are the only three I've applied the infobox to so far, but I figured I should know which option is prefered. --Qirex 12:26, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] VA suggestion
Maybe this should be extended to include all various artists releases, not just soundtracks? —jiy (talk) 21:56, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
- I think that is a very good idea; the thought hadn't even occured to me. I'm not sure how to do it, however. When I tried, I ran into a snag: I don't know how to make the part of the infobox where it says "Soundtrack of {{{Film}}}" such that it could contain either the existing phrase, for soundtracks, or "Various artist compilation". I looked through the help pages etc but I couldn't find anything. The only thing I could think of was to change that line into a single parameter, {{{subheading}}} or {{{caption}}} or somesuch, leaving the user to input the whole string. But I haven't changed it to do this just yet, because it's an awkward solution which would make it hard in the future if the infobox gets changed significantly, and it is a little ambiguous and unintuitive for people less familiar with infoboxes etc. If there is a way to implement a simple "IF..ELSE" type statement, that'd work but I couldn't find anything in the help pages about this. --Qirex 05:14, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Minor change
The infobox now by default italicizes the film name. All articles using the template have been updated. --FuriousFreddy 01:35, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
