Highway 216

Highway 216, also known as Anthony Henday Drive, is the highway designation for the current construction project of a ring road around Edmonton, Alberta. Parts of the road are already completed such as the eastern section from Highway 16 south to Highway 14, and the western and southwestern section from Highway 16 to Calgary Trail / Gateway Boulevard / Highway 2. The southeastern section is from Calgary Trail / Gateway Boulevard to Highway 14, and is also under construction, to be completed in October 2007. The southeastern section is a public-private partnership (P3 - also known as a design build project), in which Access Roads won the contract for $493 Million to build the road and maintain it for 30 years.

On the northern half of Anthony Henday Drive, construction is already under way from Highway 16, north to 137 Ave, where it will meet St. Albert's project of a regional road, bypassing the city to the west. These two parts are set to open in late 2006. As for the remainder of the route, the province has no plans for it to commence construction, yet has announced a 2011 completion of the entire ring. The rapid growth of St. Albert and the north side of Edmonton and increasing congestion on the Yellowhead Highway are spurring a push to complete the entire ring road. The completion of the northern portion of Anthony Henday Drive will also require construction of a new bridge over the North Saskatchewan River.
