Albert VII, Duke of Mecklenburg

Albert VII, or Albrecht, Duke of Mecklenburg in Gustrow (28 July 1488 - 5 January 1547), was a North-German and Scandinavian petty ruler of the 16th century.

He had claims to Scandinavian thrones, based on the Scandinavian royal lineage of the House of Mecklenburg.

On 17 January 1524 he married Anna of Brandenburg, a daughter of Joachim I, Elector of Brandenburg.

In the course of the so-called Count's Feud, Lübeck involved Duke Albert in their alliance, offering him the Danish crown. King Christian III of Denmark however managed to keep his kingdom: Christopher, Count of Oldenburg and Duke Albert were besieged in Copenhagen 1535-1536 until they capitulated.
