Alberich

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alberich was a legendary sorcerer originating in the mythos of the Frankish Merovingian Dynasty. See Oberon.

In the Nibelungenlied he is a dwarf, who guards the treasure of the Nibelungen, but is overcome by Siegfried.

In Wagner's opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen, Alberich is a composite character. He is mostly based on Alberich from the Nibelungenlied, but also on Andvari from Norse mythology.

Aleberich is also the name of an experimental synthetic rubber skin for german WWII U-boats, designed to counter Allied sonar devices.
