Al Ahram Brewery (Al Ahram Beverages Company or ABC) is an Egyptian brewery in Giza, Egypt owned by Heineken.

[edit] Brief details

ABC was formerly a national enterprise but was privatised in 1997 and purchased by Heineken in 2002. ABC produces Stella and Meister- a light lager, along with "Birell" and "Kaliber", which are nonalcoholic beers; and a range of soft drinks.

Stella is the flagship brand of ABC.

Stella is available in three varieties:

  • Stella Lager: the original, with a yellow label; 4.5% alcohol by volume.
  • Stella Export Lager: gold label, 5.2% alcohol content.
  • Stella Premium Lager: the newest addition to the line, sporting a silver label; 6.4% alcohol.

In recognition of the prevailing climate and to the delight of Egypt's many foreign visitors, the standard packaging of the first two varieties is a generous 500 ml bottle. (Premium comes in a 330 ml presentation.) The bar-room price foreign visitors will pay for a bottle of Stella Lager starts at around EGP 9.00 (EUR 1.20 or USD 1.50 as of February 2005), but could rise to EGP 20 or 25 in a five-star hotel lobby bar.

T-shirts with the distinctive Stella star logo and Friedrich Nietzsche's inspirational slogan "That which does not kill us makes us stronger" are sold in tourist areas throughout the country. Stella is brewed according to the original ancient Egyptian beer recipe.
