The Al-Foraih family (Arabic: الفريح) (also spelt: alforaih, al fraih, al furaih) originally from Najd and currently in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, descend from the Al-Anajer (Al-Anager) (Arabic: العناقر) family of the early 1700s from which split the Al-Foraih family and the Al-Anjari (Arabic: العنجري) family. The Al-Foraih family originated from the Oushager village in Najd from the Bani Sa'ad of Tameem tribe.
Othman & Ali Mohammed Al-Foraih, both historical figures in Kuwait's history were well-known for their large fortunes and countless acres of land during the mid 1800's and 1930's making them some of the richest merchants at the time. Othman M. Al-Foraih, is most recognized for his famous food contribution (he decided to donate all the contents of his food laden ship free to the Kuwaitis before it even docked into the harbour) to the famine-stricken population of Kuwait during the late 1800's which saved hundreds of Kuwaiti lives.
Many families generally with names similar to Al-Foraih claim relation to this family, yet the original Al-Foraih family maintains precise records of their relatives in order to identify authenticity.
