Al-Ameen Mission

Al-Ameen Mission is a residential institute for Muslim students located near Howrah, West Bengal. Established in 1986 with only eleven students, now it is a large family consisting of 2000 students, more than 800 alumni, 200 teaching and non-teaching stuffs. It is famous for its remarkable contribution to upbring the backward Muslim community students in West Bengal. It has also very good record of producing excellent results in state-level examinations.

Current Secretary General of the Mission, M Nurul Islam set up the Khalatpur Junior High Madrasa in 1976 when he was still studying his 10th Std. In May 1984, he started Institute of Islamic Culture. He set up a hostel for the institute in 1986 in Madrasa building itself with the collection of one fist of rice from every home in his village Khalatpur. In January 1987, it was renamed as Al-Ameen Mission. Al-Ameen Mission follows curriculam of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE). It was awarded "The Telegraph School Award for Excellence" which it shared with the South Point High School in 2002.

In spite of being an educational institute, Al-Ameen Mission has a strong presence in field of social welfare. It does number of charitable works for the Muslim community. It has helped many unemployed Muslims by way of getting loan. It has many scholarship programs to help other communities' needy students also.

Mission is mostly run from the zakat fund. Muslims throughout the country contribute their zakat to the Mission, which takes care of 25% seats reserved for poor, destitute and orphans. Apart from this there are many industrialists, individuals who have come forward whole-heartedly to help Al-Ameen Mission. It has also received funding from many other sources like Maulana Azad Education Foundation, The West Bengal Wakf Board and etc.

Main campus of Mission, Al-Ameen Mission for Boys is located at Khalatpur, Howrah. It comprises about 45 bighas of land amidst natural rural envioronment. It consists of a five-storied boys hostel building, a three-storied school building and a three-storied administrative building with guest house and health centre. There is a mosque inside the hostel building. It now has about 1115 students, with residential staff of 200 and part-time and non-residential staff of 50.

One of the most notable movement of Al-Ameen Mission was introduction of its girls' branch. Al-Ameen Mission for girls, Khalatpur, Howrah was started in 2000. It is located near the main branch itself comprising about 15 bighas of land. It consists of a three-storied hostel building and a three-storied school building. Now it has about 350 students.
After realising the need to reach more people, Mission authority started to set up its sister branches among other districts of West Bengal. Al-Ameen Mission for Boys, Belpukur, Dakshin Dinajpur (North Bengal branch, up to class 10) was established in 2001 for the benefit of educationally backward people of North Bengal. Next year 2002, It set up another branch. The Al-Ameen Mission for Boys, Patharchapri, Birbhum is located in the district of Birbhum near the holy shrine of Hazrath Data Mahboob Shah Wali (RA).
Study Circle is yet another branch of Al-Ameen Mission for West Bengal JEE (Med/Engg) and WBCS (West Bengal Civil Services) coaching and is located at Park-Circus High School, Kolkata.

Though average age of Mission's alumni is much less, but many of them have already established themselves in various fields, particularly in the field of Engineering and Medical Sciences.
