Aktoy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aktoy was an ancient Egyptian scribe who lived during the reign of Amenemhet I of the 12th Dynasty. Amenemhet I was a usurper of the throne, born of a Nubian mother and Egyptian father. In order to legitimize his place on the holy throne of Egypt, he tasked Aktoy to draft his so-called persuasion literature to convince the people of Egypt that Amenemhet I was in fact their rightful Pharaoh.
Aktoy's works include The Prophecy of Neferty, the Instruction of Amenemhet, Sinuhe's tale, and the story of the Shipwrecked Sailor. The latter is thought to be the inspiration for the classical story of Sinbad the Sailor.
