"The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him." ________________________________________________________________________ —Nahum 1:7 KJV

I am the user Akrabbim. My name comes from the Hebrew word for "scorpions". I am attending Syracuse University as an Engineering Science major. I have been a member of Wikipedia since September 2005, pretty much as long as I have known that Wikipedia was a free source encyclopedia.

I am now a member of WikiProject Userboxes (WP:UB), and I have decided to slowly migrate userboxes not directly related to or relating skills beneficial to Wikipedia from Template to User namespace (my subpages, more specifically), as uncontroversially as possible (see WP:UBM. My other edits are largely dominated by contributions to some of my favorite bands and their related articles in an effort to bring these up to more acceptable and encyclopedic standards.

[edit] To-Do List

If anyone would like to help me on any of these things, I would certainly appreciate it.

  1. Migrate userboxes not directly related to Wikipedia or user skills that contribute to Wikipedia into my subpages, according to WP:UBM
  2. Work on getting Star (disambiguation), The Star, Stars (song), and STAR to work together better and/or merging them

[edit] My Contributions

My Contributions | my edit count by Essjay's version of Interiot's version of Kate's tool

Because a very large majority of my edits are on topics of modern culture and popular music (to my taste), I occasionally feel guilty for not contributing to more traditional encyclopedic articles in any advanced way, but there are a number of reasons why.

First of all, being a college school student I do not have very much time to do the research required for more sophisticated topics. I also know a lot more about music I listen to than about traditional encyclopedic articles. I can contribute effectively to these articles without spending long amounts of time, which is ideal since a number of my edits are made during down time in between classes.

More mainstream articles such as these are also the object of large amounts of misguided or inconsequential information, as well as frequent vandalism, mostly because of the high "hit-counts" of these articles by generally anonymous non-Users. As a result, these pages are generally poorly written and formatted, and generally far below encyclopedic standards, as they are lacking honest, NPOV Wikipedians that actually have interest in them. Edit wars are common, especially in regards to genre, as many contributors have very biased opinions on what style of music a particular band is, as they are generally uneducated in professional music criticism and NPOV policy. To cite personal experience, Switchfoot, Relient K, and Fall Out Boy have all encountered such extensive edit wars.
