Akosua Serwaa began her career in 1996 while attending the Susec High School in Ghana. As teenager she competed in different events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1000m, 1500m, 5k, 10k) for 3 years and was a self-coach; she won several national medals and Awards before becoming a professional athlete. With no financial support and training assistance from her National Athletics Federation, Akosua Serwaa didn’t give up and continued training very hard. In 1999 she won the Gold medal (4*400m) and her first Silver medal (800m)- Tunis for Ghana. In order to benefit from an eventual support from Iaaf,IOC or from her country Akosua was self-financing her training in Cologne; but didn’t receive any help from none of those. Akosua’s training was assisted during 3 years with the support of Coach Guenther Kuxdorf (who helped her to get into the 7 best 800m women runners in the world) for both the preparation of the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics- Paris 2003 and the 28th Olympic Games- Athens 2004. Because of lack of training assistance Akosua Serwaa didn’t start for the last World Championchip (Helsinki 2005) and the last Commonwealth Games (Melbourne 2006). Akosua Serwaa runs today near her famous idols Maria Mutola , Yolanda Ceplak and even dreams to make it (for the next Olympic Games- Beijing 2008), if supported, better!

Akosua Serwaa is the # 1 middle distance runner in the periode from 1998 - 2006 and has the 800m Ghana women national record (1.59). Akosua Serwaa has a little boy (Mike) and said to her husband (Hiler): “that’s not enough for breaking me running under 2.00 min…”
