Akhalgori

Akhalgori is a district and city of Georgia located within the borders of the Soviet era Autonomous District of South Ossetia, but controlled by the Georgian government unlike most of the rest of the former autonomous district which is controlled by the separatist forces of Post-Soviet internationally unrecognized republic of South Ossetia. The district is administered as part of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region.

During the Soviet period, the city was known as Leningori.

Akhalgori has approximately 2000 inhabitants. It has two schools and a kindergarten. The population is primarily Georgian and Ossetian with good relations between the groups. Akhalgori is also home to the Lomisi beer brewery, which is the primary employer of the town.
