Aken (Elbe) [ˈaːkən] is a town in the district Köthen, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The town is located at the left bank of the Elbe river.

Aken located at the Middle Elbe is approx. 8 km western of Dessau in extended lowlands within the Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe. Approx. 15 km western of Aken meet in the Saale river in the low inclinded Middle Elbe.

For the first time mentioned was the castle Gloworp in the 12. century. The town itself was first documentary mentioned in 1219 by naming the mayor Waltherus de Aken. In 1270 Aken received its town charter Civitas. The name Aken based on the latin name Aqua (location at the water or location at the waterways). Probably this was a foundation from lower rhin settlers, which cames originally from nearby Aachen. Aken is also the Dutch name of the city Aachen.
