Aircraft of Ace Combat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ace Combat games have featured countless and notable planes that have served to inspire us about the world of military aviation. Despite not being a true simulator the planes are still popular enough to warrant mention.

[edit] Trivia

  • The EF-2000 (Typhoon), MiG-29, F-117, F-16 and the F-22 have been featured in just about every AC game, modified in the case of AC3. However, the F-117 (as the A/F-117X Nav Hawk) is not flyable in the American & European version of Ace Combat 3.
  • Not once has the AV-8B (or any V/STOL aircraft for the matter) been available to the player, for reasons unknown. It is most likely that the 'flight dynamics' in the Ace Combat series would not allow for a unscripted player controlled V/STOL aircraft. Also, many of the missions and nature of the combat would make any hovering, stationary aircraft sitting ducks.
  • Following Air Combat and Ace Combat 2, it has been a 'tradition' to include "Super Planes" as well as "Super Weapons".
  • The YF-22 was mistakenly labled the F-22 in Air Combat and Ace Combat 2.
  • B-52's only carry tailguns in Air Combat, Ace Combat 2, and Ace Combat 5. In the real world, the tailgun on the aircraft was removed in the 1990s
  • Although the E-767 does appear in Ace Combat Zero; it does not perform any jamming whatsoever. This role has been substituted by the EA-6B Prowler and the EA-18G. *
  • The Draken, Viggen, and Gripen aircraft use the 'SF' designation in Air Combat and Ace Combat 2 however, the SF designation is used for recon variants and not for fighters.
  • The actual F/A-18D is a twin-seat aircraft; the model used in the game is a single seater.
  • In Ace Combat 2, the Su-35 & the Su-37 had the Su-27's tailfins.
  • In Ace Combat 5 and Zero, the F-22 used the (now obsolete) "F/A-22A" designation.
  • The F-15S/MTD in Ace Combat 4 was mistakingly designated as F-15ACTIVE. You can tell by the nozzles.
