Aircraft Research and Development Unit RAAF

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Royal Australian Air Force's Aircraft Research and Development Unit (ARDU) is responsible for the test and evaluation of aircraft and weapons used by the RAAF. The ARDU was first established as the Special Duties and Performance Flight in 1941 and is currently located at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia. In 2003, ARDU was re-formed into the Aerospace Operational Support Group (AOSG), incorporating several additional operational support roles including those relating to flight testing.

AOSG also operates the Woomera Test Facility located near Woomera, South Australia.

The majority of the aircraft maintenance work is carried out by Raytheon (Aust). The RAAF have members embedded into the civilian workforce to carry out instrumentation development and installation into the various aircraft.
