AirBART is a shuttle bus service that connects the Bay Area Rapid Transit District's Coliseum/Oakland Airport station with Oakland International Airport (OAK). Buses stop at street level just outside the BART station and make two stops at the airport, one for each terminal, along the second (middle) curb. Buses run every ten minutes at most times of day. A ride costs $2 and, depending on traffic, takes fifteen to thirty minutes.[1] To speed up boarding, AirBART requires exact fares to be paid for boarding the bus, which can be fulfilled with either exact change, 1-dollar bills, or a $2 BART ticket.

Local bus operator AC Transit offers two alternatives. Route 50[2] is less expensive, but also less frequent, than AirBART. Route 805[3] operates overnight, when AirBART does not. The fare for either AC Transit bus is $1.75 in cash; $1.50 with a BART-to-Bus transfer, which BART riders may obtain from the white machine, before leaving the paid area of the BART station; or $0 with a Capitol Corridor Transit Transfer, which Capitol Corridor train riders may obtain from the train conductor. The buses stop at marked AC Transit stops adjacent to the BART station, a few paces beyond the AirBART stop. They make only one stop at the airport, between the terminals, along the third (outer) curb. In practice, travel time is slightly longer than with AirBART. It is important to confirm the destination (direction of travel) with the bus driver.

BART currently plans to build a people mover between Coliseum/Oakland Airport station and the Oakland Airport terminals; revenue service is scheduled to begin by 2011. Since the connector will be quite expensive to build, maintain and operate, fares of as much as $5 have been proposed for the service and a $1 fare hike is being contemplated as a test run. [4] This connector will replace the current bus service; it is currently unclear whether the AirBART name will be retained for this service.[5]
