Aiming point
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In field artillery, the accuracy of direct fire depends on the use of aiming points, or APs or GAPs (gun aiming points). In air force terminology the aiming point(or A.P.) refers to holding the intersection of the cross hairs on a bombsight when fixed at a specific target.
Recently, computerised equipment makes use of GPS for accuracy, but formerly, a gun would record aiming points after deploying on a position.
Aiming Points would be in the following sequence depending on availability:
- GACS (Gun Alignment and Control System) with Beacon on
- Collimator
- Aiming Posts
- Distant GAP (Gun aiming point or physical features of the land)
