AIMutation

AIMutation is a computer program that adds features to AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) version 5.x. AIMutation was freeware, but then became payware. It is now, once again freeware. It is also, now, open source software licensed under the GNU Public License.
AIMutation is no longer being developed. The official website redirects to Messenger:Mate, a commercial AIM (and MSN) add-on developed by the original developer of AIMutation, Maurizio Pisano.

AIMutation adds more customization features to AIM. Most of them were obsoleted after they were implemented in the official AIM client.

- tabbed windows
- talking while "away"
- logging
- pop-up windows when the status of buddies changes
- "cloning" (the ability to use multiple screen names in the same operating system)
- removal of advertisements
- customizable commands
- user plug-ins
