Ahwahnee is a town in Madera County, California, USA.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,957 people, 721 households, and 559 families residing in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 88.7% White, 0.2% Black or African American, 2.0% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 1.7% from other races, and 6.6% from two or more races. 8.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 721 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.0% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% are non-families. 16.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 2.99.

The median income for a household in the town is $38,688, and the median income for a family is $42,955. Males have a median income of $32,083 versus $23,083 for females. The per capita income for the town is $18,788. 9.0% of the population and 4.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.6% of those under the age of 18 and 1.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
