[edit] Overview
[edit] Plot
In this Computer RPG, you are a thirteen-year-old girl named Talia Maurva. On her thirteenth birthday she is sent to the village elder to be "named," which will determine what she does with the rest of her life. Talia wishes to be named herbalist but the elder, sensing something about Talia, decides to send her to the mainland to study magic. Accompanied by the chivalrous Devin Perry, she discovers that a big quest in waiting for her: stopping the evil Lord Zorom from raising a demon called Ahriman before the 13th moon. Talia will need more members for her party to succeed. There are four people that can be recruited but only two can stay with the party at a time (Talia and Devin stays permanently).
The game features a lot of fairy tale-inspired quests. People who are familiar with Grimm's fairy tales will find some sidequests derived from these.
There are two versions of the game. The first version is already obsolete and was made with RPG Maker 2000. The second version, the one available in Amaranthia, is considerably longer and harder than the first.
The battle system is in-game and not separate from the flow of the rest of the game.
Some spelling and grammar errors mar gameplay. "Vial" is spelled "vile" and "renown" is used where "renowned" should be used, i.e. "World renown writer".
[edit] Main Characters
- Talia Maurva is a 13-year-old girl who is brought up by her grandmother ever since her father died and her mother mysteriously disappeared. Later on, it is discovered that her mother was a fairy and that the call of the forest made her leave her husband and child. She desires to become a herbalist in her home village, Elden. Destiny changes for Talia when the village namer, Avrail, sends her to the mainland after Talia has a strange vision in the namer's seeing pool. Talia, accompanied by Devin Perry, travels to the city Thais in the mainland and is trained at the Collegium of War and Magick, later becoming a full-fledged magic wielder. On the day she graduates from the Collegium, news is heard of the kidnapping of Alicia Pendragon, princess of Thais. Talia and Devin offer to rescue her, and this is where Talia's quest begins. After a strange dream, Talia discovers she is destined for greatness...
- Devin Perry was named a blacksmith but offers to accompany Talia, at the request of her grandmother, on her journey to the mainland. He has two brothers and his father, Barbar, is the village's resident blacksmith. He remains with her and is trained as a knight at the Collegium of War and Magick. Devin is quite chivalrous-- perhaps overly so-- and jumps at any chance to prove his worth. Devin has no desire to return to Elden, and insists on joining Talia on her quest to find Ahriman. You can marry him to either Talia or Alicia.
- Alicia Pendragon is the beautiful Princess of Thais, daughter and sole heir of King Alexander and Queen Alisandra Pendragon. She is quite proud and haughty but her skills are very valuable. She yearns to escape from her courtly duties, particularly getting married and have children. She is very adventurous and dreams of becoming a powerful mercenary. At the beginning, Lord Zorom kidnaps Alicia to make her his bride. However, his plans are foiled by Talia and Devin. Afterwards, Alicia is sent to a Candarian Ball where Prince Edward, Lord Zorom's kind brother, is looking for his future bride. Depending on your choices, you can leave her to marry the Prince (much to her disappointment and annoyance because she didn't want to get married to anyone and she wanted to explore the world), or you can help her out and make another girl happy instead.
- Jack is a young thief living in the streets of Thais. He can be recruited into your party based on choices you make in the game. He can pick locks, open locked chests and such and if you remove him from your party, he will take all your money with him. But if you recruit him back, he will return your money. He is quite weak but can be a decent fighter with a Charmed Dagger, which can be obtained at the Coliseum after he meets his old friend, Vel. There are a lot of opportunities when you can dump him but he will steal your money!
- Frederick Le Mew is a shapeshifter who lives in Animalville, a village created as a safe haven for animals. His true form is a serpentine creature, but he can learn shapechange into a number of different animals as you move throughout the game. He is tired of his shapechanging classes which only enables him to transform into a chicken. After doing some quests, Frederick can learn how to shapechange into a bee, a slime, a lion, a dragon and a unicorn.
- Haddan is a small dwarf living in the Dwarf Mines north of Candar. You can hire him to fight in your party for a fee, but he's not a necessary party member although he is incredibly strong.
[edit] Villains
- Lord Zorom is the Candarian Crown Prince Edward's younger brother. Lord Zorom desires to rule over Candar and attempted to assassinate his brother's life to do so. When he was younger, he went to the Collegium of War and Magick and was found to have a great potential to be a powerful sorcerer. But he attempted to use his skills on a forbidden ritual-- raising a dead wolf back to life. He was caught and was subsequently sent back to Candar. He is attempting to revive the demon Ahriman and control him in order to take over the kingdoms and exact revenge on his brother for his banishment.
- Dark Priest is Lord Zorom's faithful accomplice. He is the one who prepares for the ritual to revive Ahriman. He is also capable of powerful magic.
- Ahriman is the Dark Lord whom Lord Zorom wanted to summon. He is the main villain of Aveyond. Talia and her friends will be able to kill Zorom and his Dark Priest and also attack Ahriman, but in Aveyond, they realised that Ahriman was not dead. Talia thought that Zorom had no completed summoning Ahriman but he had, and with Zorom dead, the spirit of Ahriman was bound by no one...
[edit] Romances
There are only two romantic pairings among the main characters in the game:
- Devin and Talia - This pairing is probably the more popular. Devin joins Talia in her quest early in the game. As the game progresses, you can choose to marry her with Devin. Of course, since they knew each other for so long, it is possible they may have developed feelings for each other.
- Devin and Alicia - From the moment they first met each other, they almost quarreled, because of Devin's remark, "You're just a girl." Later on, if the right choices are made, you can marry Alicia with Devin. If you do, you will get to see Alicia say that she didn't want to marry a prince when Devin hesitates because he was not of royal blood. She says that he is much more interesting.
Other miscellaneous pairings include:
- Alicia and Prince Edward - If you choose not to help Ella get a ball gown, Prince Edward will choose Alicia for his bride. Prince Edward will be fine with it, completing his sentences with "...I guess." Alicia will be annoyed and will ask why he chose her. She still wants to travel but now that she is married, she will have to remain in the castle and do her courtly duties.
- Ella and Prince Edward - Now this is a good example of a fairy tale. Ella is a poor girl who was abused by her stepmother and stepsisters. She earnestly wishes to go to the ball but she couldn't because of her ragged clothes. If you choose to help her by providing her with a ball gown, she can go to the ball and capture Prince Edward's heart. They will then get married and as a token of appreciation, Prince Edward will give you a key to the treasure room.
Confusion arises when in Aveyond, Devin marries Alicia when it is said he was in love with Talia. The choices you make in the game doesn't affect the events in Aveyond.
