Ahn Doo-hee

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ahn Doo-hee (or Ahn Doo-whi) was a lieutenant in the US Counter-intelligence Corps in Korea. He is famous for assassinating the former Korean leader Kim Gu on June 26, 1949, for which he was sentenced to life in prison, before that Syngman Rhee reduced his sentence to 15 years. In 1960, the latter went into exile and Ahn would live from then on under an assumed name. On October 22, 1996, Ahn was beaten to death by a fanatic with a wooden staff on which he had inscribed "Justice stick". Ahn allegedly claimed that he was ordered to kill Kim Gu by Capt. Kim Chang-ryong, Rhee's right hand man. However, this has never been proved and is improbable.
