Ahmed Ould Sid'Ahmed

Ahmed Ould Sid'Ahmed (born 1949) is a Mauritanian diplomat and politician. He has been foreign minister of Mauritania since 7 August 2005 when he was appointed as part of the new government that came shortly after a military coup. Sid'Ahmed joined the Mauritian foreign ministry in 1973 and had served as ambassador to various countries and organizations, including the Egypt (1988-1990), Senegal (1992-1993), Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg (1993-1996), United Nations (1996-1997), United States (1997-1998, and Syria (2003-2005). Sid'Ahmed was also foreign minister from 1998 to 2001 and led Mauritania's normalizations of relations with Israel.
