Agustí Cerdà i Argent

Agustí Cerdà i Argent is a Valencian politician, Spanish national deputy since 2004 and president of Republican Left of the Valencian Country since its foundation in September of year 2000. He was born in Canals (València) on December 8, 1965.

In his youth he was a member of the permanent secretariat of Bloc d'Estudiants Agermanats (Bloc of Student Brotherhood) from 1983 to 1988 and a charter member of Assemblea d'Estudiants Nacionalistes (Assembly of Nationalist Students). In 1985 he entered in Moviment de Defensa de la Terra (Movement for the Land Defence) and later joined in the Partit Socialista d'Alliberament Nacional (Socialist National Liberation Party of Catalonia) in 1985, remaining in it until 1993 and entering into its executive. During this period is one of the founders of the youthful independentist organization Maulets. In 1987 was engaged by Fundació Ausiàs March (Ausiàs March Foundation), for the organization of the Premis octobre, to take care of the classification of 10,000 documents that conform the present file of the Social and workers' movements, the most important documentary fund on valencian social and political movements.

He is a member of the Acció Cultural del País Valencià (Cultural Action of the Valencian Country) from 1984, association of which he became manager from 1992 to 1996 and whose Bulletin became director in October of 1989. Also of Valencia has been coordinating of the Casal Jaume I. It is member of the Catalan Society of Geography, Ça Revolta and the choral society El Micalet. The May 5 of 1995 was one of the ones in charge of the organization of a manifestation in Valencia around the civic platform Bloc de Progrés Jaume I (a valencian civic association). In 1997 he inaugurated the first of the twenty-five Casals Jaume I, the Alacant one. On 1999 he founded, along with other personalities from Bloc de Progrés Jaume I, Front pel País Valencià (Front for the Valencian Country), organization who will concur to the Spanish general elections of 2000 joint with Republican Left, list in which was number one by the circumscription of València. In 2000 July Front pel País Valencià joined in Republican Left of Catalonia. In September of the same year was created Republican Left of the Valencian Country as the fruit of the unificació of the Front with ERC. In that foundational congress, Cerdà i Argent was chosen president of Republican Left of the Valencian Country and was also elected member of the national and permanent executive commissions of the party. Also he was the first in the list by València in the valencian autonomic elections of 2003 and the Spanish general elections of 2004 in which it did not manage to be chosen when obtaining a 0.57% of the votes. In spite of it, Cerdà, that also had appeared by the lists of Barcelona, obtained a deputy act. He is the president of the Commission of Relations with the Ombudsman in the Spanish Congress.
