Agumbe is one of the most scenic places on the Western Ghats of the Karnataka. Added to the lush green view all around, the attractions for the visitors is the spectacular sunset and vast opportunities it offers to the trekkers.

It is located about 90 km away from the District Head Quarters, Shimoga, and is accessible by road through dense forest coverage. The road through Agumbe connects Shimoga and Manipal, renowned for its hospital facilities. Agumbe is among the places that receive high rainfall and is called the Cherrapunji of South India. Agumbe also served the screening of most of the episodes of one of the most popular television serial Malgudi Days, directed by Shankar Nag based on R. K. Narayan's novel.

There are two waterfalls near to Agumbe. First one is "Onake Abbi" and second one is "Barkana". In Kannada "Onake" stands for a pounding stick (made out of wood) which is used in villages. The words "Onake Abbi" means that a water fall which is as thick as "Onake", may be when viewed from a distance it looks like that.

Agumbe is famous for sunset. The sunset spot is directly raised from sea level to a height of 930 feet. Between sunset spot and sea (at a distance of 30 km),there are no obstacles and hence, one can have a very beautiful sunset from this spot. The best possible months for viewing sunset from Agume is December to mid of April. There aferwards, clouds will obstruct view. One can also visit Agumbe during peak rainy season i.e, mid of June to mid of August for enjoying rain.
