[edit] Soil Science
Soil science is not a properly a sub-category of agriculture. This is a common and absolutely understandable mis-conception, as common as considering soil science a sub-discipline of geology or engineering. The establishment of the International Union of Soil Sciences in 1924 confirmed soil science as an independent science, separate from the biological sciences and geological sciences. It is telling that agronomy and the agricultural sciences do not have an independent international union to represent it or give it the standing commonly attributed to it. Agricultural science appears to be, at best, a sub-discipline of the biological sciences. Paleorthid 16:43, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
- Soil science is an auxiliary science to agronomy, like mathematics is to physics or physics, microbiology and chemistry are to wastewater management. This does not mean that soil science isn't a separate field in its own right. So I think soil science can be a subgategory of agronomy and agriculture as well as a subcategory of geology. Hope this stops the revert wars and other mayhem :) Agronomy is an applied science, not a fundamental science. --Germen (Talk | Contribs ) 09:38, 27 July 2005 (UTC) (agronomist)
[edit] Crops
A big help would be to move all the plants under the category "Crops" and removed them from "Agriculture". This subcategory will eliminate a large number. Can anyone help me with this project? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 18:57, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
