Africa U.S.A., California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Africa U.S.A., was an African wildlife tourist attraction. The park was located in Redwood Shores, California. It is mostly remembered because it was used for location shooting of the television series Daktari. It must not be confused with the Africa U.S.A. Park in Florida.
[edit] History
Africa U.S.A. was opened in the 1960s. Location shooting of Daktari started in 1966 and continued till 1969. An episode of Star Trek "Shore Leave" was also shot here.
In the mid 1970s, the park was failing and it merged with a small oceanarium called Marine World to become Marine World Africa USA. The park then moved in 1986 to Vallejo, California, to become Six Flags Marine World in 1999.
The land of Africa U.S.A. is now occupied by the world headquarters of Oracle Corporation.
