Aeris.net
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aeris.net® is a Machine to Machine, or M2M, network services provider sending very small amounts of data across the control channels of digital and analog cellular networks. Aeris calls this technology MicroBurst®. Aeris has expanded their network services to include the transmission of data using SMS and packet-radio technologies, such as GPRS over GSM and 1XRTT over CDMA. Aeris calls these services SMSDirect™, GPRS OnDemand™ and 1xRTT OnDemand™.
Although often categorized as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, Aeris is unique in using their own allocations of MIN (from IFAST) and IMSI (from Telcordia) device numbers and identifiers to provide their data services, via agreements with cellular carriers that more closely resemble data roaming agreements than branded resale agreements.
Aeris.net also provides the AerFrame™ environment, which is a network-independent M2M data management environment for transmitting and receiving telemetry data from remote devices. AerFrame™ uses Aeris's network services, as well as other non-cellular networks (such as satellite data and WiFi).

[edit] History
[edit] Overview
Founded in the nineties, Aeris began offering MicroBurst data services in 1997 and brought on its first customer Ademco (now part of Honeywell) in 1998. The first carriers supporting the MicroBurst data service included Western Wireless, Ameritech (now part of Cingular) and Bell Atlantic Mobile (now part of Verizon). The service footprint now includes the aggregated infrastructure of over thirty cellular carriers in North America, including Telcel in Mexico and Rogers and Bell Mobilite in Canada.
[edit] Recent Notable Achievements
In 2005, Aeris deployed their 1,000,000th unit on the MicroBurst network, making the company one of the largest M2M network service providers in North America, and receiving Andy Seybold's Outlook 4Mobility 2006 Innovation Award, for surpassing one million M2M subscriber devices.
At the CTIA Wireless 2006 show in Las Vegas, NV, in April 2006, Aeris also received the Wireless Emerging Technology Award for its AerFrame enterprise solution. The Wireless Emerging Technology Award or "E-Tech" award recognizes outstanding hardware, software, consumer and enterprise products in wireless. The award was prominently displayed in the lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center for the duration of the show.
