[edit] Opening Statements
Hello I'm your Mediator Aeon. First I will ask that you both post your opening statements andthen we can get this ball rolling and ry to solve this issue. Aeon Insane Ward 02:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

While I do not perceive my previous statements to have been personal attacks you are more than entitled to hold that opinion though I must point out that you have accused two other users of similar attacks (Acornlord and Dynendal). However, I will concede the point so that it does not become the subject of debate. Also, please note that all the edits I have made have been through my IP due to an error with firefox which I have recently updated (and don't worry about sockpuppeting, no changes to the beard page have been made from this user name for several months).
I agree the talk page is a valid venue for discussion and I am glad that you took the initiative to open a section to deal with this issue. However, at the time I requested mediation you had simply reverted my changes without any discussion besides deeming it "censorship" so I felt this was the proper course of action.
So triddle, let me just say, I have nothing against you and I have seen in your profile that you have contributed a lot to wikipedia. However, it seems quite straightfoward to me that it is not in wikipedia's best interest to have this picture on such a general article as it both creates a source of conflicted interest (quite apparrent?) and is frankly (and I'm not alone in this opinion) an aesthically unpleasing picture. Honestly, it is ridiculous that we're even having this debate, but you have obviously forced the issue.
I am not trying to make any enemies, but simply trying to get this issue resolved through following wikipedia's guildlines.
I will agree to put this mediation on hold for the moment because it seems that we are gaining further input on the talk page, but i think it will be good to maintain this page for awhile until the issue is resolved.

- Please provide the text in question, including signatures, as I can't recall ever having a discussion about the beard picture prior to having one with you, aside from the entry in the talk page where I provide my reasoning for why the photo is high quality. Triddle 22:06, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Triddle
First of all, I think it is unfortunate that such an issue is being taken up against me. I believe this will ultimately be a waste of time as I've done nothing wrong. I believe the user is unilaterally attempting to impose their definition of beauty on the article in question, rather than attempting to increase the quality of wikipedia. I believe that I am increasing the quality of wikipedia through my actions by reverting edits to the article that remove a high quality photograph. The photograph in question is of me, I've never denied that fact. In fact, I've made that painfully obvious the entire time. I am not aware of any rule that says one can not place a photograph of themselves in an article if the photograph is contextual, which mine is.
On several occasions I have reverted edits that removed my picture. I've done this each time because I believe that removing a high quality photograph, suitable for print, lowers the quality of wikipedia. In this instance the user is not even replacing the photograph with another. The user who removed the photograph (and whom I believe has started this case against me) has engaged in personal attacks (referring to my photograph as disgusting) as well as accusing me of having an agenda which I do not posses.
I believe that bringing this up for any form of dispute resolution is a premature action since I'm attempting to use the talk page to form a consensus as to whether the photograph should remain or not. Currently one user believes the photograph should be removed, while two more (myself included) believe it should stay. Informally I have already joined the wikipedia IRC channel for some feedback in this matter. The IRC channel agreed that my photograph should remain. The use of the mediation process in leu of using the talk page is an unfortunate waste of time for all parties involved. Triddle 01:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
