[edit] Two medcab cases

I see you volunteered to help out in Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2006-08-06_Darth Vader, but just so you know the same two users are involved in a conflict in Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2006-08-06_Bionic_Hand if you are interested in discussing that with them as well :). Thanks. Cowman109Talk 21:07, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I haven't looked at the matter much yet, but it's basically just the two users not communicating. This diff is what made the case submitter upset, but it seems like all this needs is a bit of dialogue between the two of them to settle it. Cowman109Talk 21:13, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism (or lack thereof)

My edit of the Tintern Girls Grammar School was not vandalism. It was edited because 2200 is not an accurate number. If fact it was only there because the infobox was copied from another page that happened to have 2200 students. I removed it to make way for accurate figures once I have found them. 203.94.135.138 22:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:EspBSRib.png

Thanks for uploading Image:EspBSRib.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] AMA request - Aktornado

In regards to Talk:Golfers_with_most_major_championship_wins which has also spilled over into Talk:Tiger_Woods. I happened upon the Tiger Woods article and I noticed that in the lead paragraph, it was mentioned that Tiger Woods is currently 3rd on the "all time majors" list. I knew from common knowledge that he was in fact tied for second on this list with Walter Hagen. I corrected the information and it was quickly reverted back to third by user Stanley011. I looked deeper into this issue and have found that this has happened a number of times on both the Tiger Woods page and the Golfers_with_the_greatest_number_of_major_championship_wins page. The user in question has reverted this information after it has been corrected by other users a number of times (at least 20 times in recent months). As you can see on the talk page, I have asked him to source what he believes is correct, and he has been unable to do so. While I certainly understand his point of view, that doesn't make it correct. While I am rather new to wikipedia, I do understand that as an encyclopedia, the articles here should conform to what is widely considered the standard viewpoint. While I don't know what User Stanley011 motives are, I don't feel he is keeping the best interests of wikipedia in mind. If you could provide any assistance with this matter, I'd appreciate it. -- Aktornado 15:28, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

Actually, my comments on his discussion page were very civil. Perhaps you ought to review wikipedia's policy on incivility. With regard to the substance of his complaint, I have cited all of my sources as well. Have you reviewed my edits? Take a few moments to do that, then discuss the specific complaint you have with what I included. Stanley011 15:45, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

OK-- here is link one: [1]--first paragraph proves that the amateurs were considered majors in Jones's era and are not now considered majors. Here is link two: [2]--also proves that the amateurs were considered majors in Jones's era and are not now considered majors. The sentence "Jones would win 13 major championships, highlighted by his swan song quartet in 1930. In that year, he won the British Amateur (then a major) and the British Open, as well as the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open" identifies Jones as winning 13 majors. Link three: [3]--identifies Nicklaus as winning 18 majors. Link four: [4]--identifies Woods as winning 11 majors.

I should also note that Aktornado has falsely accused me of removing sources and has labeled content disputes as vandalism. Do these actions violate wikipedia policy? I was under the impression that they do but perhaps I am mistaken. Stanley011 15:56, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure if I should be adding in here or not, but I'd like to reiterate that providing three different sources in three different contexts to arrive at one conclusion does not help your cause. In regards to whether or not your edits constitute vandalism, you're probably correct and I will not label them as such. However I do think you are quite cavilier in your revert wars, and that is not consistant with the policy. Aktornado 16:03, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Ok before this gets out of hand on my user page I will respond to both you you on your own pages. Æon Insane Ward 16:08, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[5]--this is from the Detroit News, and it states directly, within the article, that both Jones and Nicklaus have more majors than Woods. Stanley011 16:15, 9 August 2006 (UTC).

Aeon1006, As you may have discovered while researching this matter, the crux of the issue is whether or not amateur championships are considered "majors." As he has sourced, in the era of Bobby Jones, the four majors were the U.S. Open, the Amateur U.S. Open, The British Open, and the Amatuer British Open. The Contemporary majors are the U.S. Open, The British Open, The Masters, and the PGA Championship. This is not disputed by either of us. However when attempting to compare the two, it is standard practice to either count all amateur championships, or none. It is not standard practice to count championships for some people, but not for others. You cannot do that because the matter of when the amateur championships ceased to be majors is a matter of opinion. Therefore there are two standard ways to list "most majors won." Either including the amateur championships, or not. For example, see: http://golf.about.com/cs/historyofgolf/a/menmajorwins.htm

As you can see, on neither of these lists is Bobby Jones listed with 13 wins, while Tiger Woods is listed with 11 wins. It's important to note that the article in question here is a statistical chart, similar to the ones linked here. The first chart is the one most commonly referenced, as it is more applicable to todays standards, however both are correct. Neither are what is currently displayed.

Another chart depicting the same information (however it is outdated) http://www.pgatour.com/story/7871150

Articles which reference the first chart.

   Sportsline: http://sportsline.com/golf/story/9568097 Aktornado 20:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

As you can see, it is standard practice to use the charts I have cited, and not the contrived chart Stanly01 has developed, and as such I feel the same should be used here on wikipedia. Aktornado 16:39, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the info Æon Insane Ward 15:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

That's just it. She/he's not following it, and this RFC thing seems more like a glorified shouting match than any kind of disciplinary action. Attic Owl 02:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm rather frustrated, but you're probably right in the fact that my frustration is not helping the matter. Please, just do me a favor and let me know how I can help towards preventing users like him/her acting poorly towards other Wikipedians.Attic Owl 02:34, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Are those things any more productive than these rfcs in your experience? Attic Owl 02:45, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, why not go directly to the Arbcom? I had also heard that the Arbcom was also heavily biased in favor of people such as Kelly. Attic Owl 02:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Desysopping

Really? Have these desysoppings been one sided? I have heard that all the sysops that are suckups to Jimbo never get desysopped. Attic Owl 03:02, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I saw some responses on User talk:Jimbo Wales from Jimbo Wales the other day. I've also heard he's on the IRC Channel often. You're correct though, I should have said sucked up to Jimbo and his elite class. As you might have noticed, i'm a big opponent of social stratification. Attic Owl 03:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Will do. Hopefully there's some way to make Wikipedia equal to all. Attic Owl 03:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
