The party is made up of disgruntuled PDP members who feel they have lost power and patronage to the Presidents supports. The attempts by the Presidents supporters to get amend the constitutional two term limit, allowing President Obasanjo to continue in office for a further four years, led to a rupture of the underlying tension within the party. The Vice President who has ahbored presidential ambitions for a while has been the main focus of the group of PDP politicians who have formed this new party, he is widely expected to be the Presidential candidate of the ACD.
