Admiral Ackbar (starship)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The G.A.S. Admiral Ackbar is a fictional starship in the Star Wars Universe. It was a derivative of the Victory-class Star Destroyer in the Galactic Alliance Fifth Fleet and was classified as a "pirate hunter". It possessed fifty turbolaser batteries, a tremendous tractor beam unit as large as the bridge that could haul in asteroids, and possessed over three dozen starfighters: XJ3 X-wings and Series III E-wings.
It was the flagship of Galactic Alliance Nek Bwu'atu, commander of the Fifth Fleet and a tactical genius, who has the distinction of regularly defeating the Grand Admiral Thrawn simulator of the New Republic. The Admiral Ackbar and the Interdictor Star Destroyer Mon Mothma, which was under the command of Commodore Gavin Darklighter, blockaded the Utegu Nebula in the Killik-Chiss border conflict to prevent any Killiks from entering Galactic Alliance space, but also to prevent Jedi from interfering with the uneasy peace between the two alien species.
However, Leia Organa Solo and Jedi Master Sebatyne in the starship Millennium Falcon and a team of Jedi in StealthXs were unaware of the blockade and tried to unsuccessfully run it. Bwu'atu lured Leia into a misguided sense of invulnerability, but then snagged the aging freighter with the Admiral Ackbar's super tractor. Leia and Sebatyne were taken as prisoners, and the StealthXs dispersed and hid from the Admiral Ackbar and the Mon Mothma.
When the two Jedi were onboard as prisoners, Leia was taken onto the bridge to discuss if she could convince the StealthXs to stand down and surrender as well. Leia adamantly refused. However, then, she felt something was distinctly wrong. The Admiral Ackbar had newly acquired busts of Admiral Bwu'atu. They were scattered throughout to honor the admiral. She identified the source of uneasiness as the busts, and was trying to dispose of one of them when the busts exploded into dozens of flying Killik mosquito-like assassins that used paralyzing venom.
Just then, a dozen Killik nest ships: rough spheres approximately 8,000 meters in diameter, accompanied by thousands of Killik dartships appeared, trying to run the blockade while the crew of the Admiral Ackbar was being assassinated from within. The crew fought valiantly, but they were overrun. Bwu'atu, the command crew, and the two Jedi struggled to trigger the self-destruct and escape. However, they were thwarted by Killik soldier companies and a certain Jedi-turned-Killik Joiner: Alema Rar.
Leia, Master Sebatyene, Admiral Bwu'atu, and a few officers managed to escape in the Millennium Falcon before UnuThul, the extremely Force-sensitive Killik leader, took over the Admiral Ackbar as the Killik flagship.
In the Battle of Tenupe, Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker led a brigade of 1,600 YVH 5-S Bugcruncher war droids in 50 assault shuttles to retake the Killik's Admiral Ackbar. They had heavy support fire from a heavy Galactic Alliance battle fleet. When the Admiral Ackbar desperately retreated, seven warships of its classification that were still belonging to the Galactic Alliance held it resolutely in place with their supertractors. When the shuttles neared, fifteen former-Galactic Alliance starfighters that were under repairs when the Admiral Ackbar fell under Killik control launched to attack them. However, Bwu'atu had anticipated this, and Rogue Squadron swooped down on the to-be-ambushers, ending the threat to the shuttles. Then UnuThul used his tremendous Force powers in an attempt to literally pull the shuttles apart. He destroyed a handful, but the YVH 5-S droids were equipped for maneuvering in zero-g and space, and all 1,600 were able to land.
In the maddening ensuing fight in the winding corridors of the Admiral Ackbar, dozens of droids were destroyed and hundreds of Killiks were killed. However, Luke managed to knock out UnuThul and slice Lomi Plo into four pieces, effectively ending the aggressiveness of the Killik Swarm by disabling their leaders. The Admiral Ackbar was also retaken and is presumed operational by the time of Star Wars: Betrayal, the newest Star Wars book.
