Map of Moscow administrative okrugs
The federal city of Moscow, Russia is divided into ten administrative okrugs, which are in turn subdivided into districts (raions). The city does not have a downtown area; the urban core is scattered across the city. Prominent business areas include Kitai-Gorod in the very center, Tverskoy District, Arbat District, and Presnya (home to the future Moscow-City complex) to the east. Central Administrative Okrug as a whole has a large concentration of businesses. The city hall and major administration buildings are located in Tverskoy District and Kitai-Gorod (home to the Moscow Kremlin). The Western Administrative Okrug is home to Moscow State University, Sparrow Hills, The Mosfilm Studios, and the famous Novodevichy Convent.

- ^ a b Russian Classification of Objects on Administrative Division (OKATO) recognizes Kitai-Gorod as a district in Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow. However, according to the Resolution of the Mayor of Moscow #193-PM of April 10, 1996 On Creation of the Special Status Territorial Unit in Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow, Kitai-Gorod had a status of a special territorial unit, not that of a district. The subsequent Resolution of the Moscow Government #479-PP of June 24, 2003 On Reorganization of the Administration of "Kitai-Gorod" Special Status Territorial Unit merged Kitai-Gorod with Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow. As of 2006, the OKATO has not been amended to recognize these changes. For the reference purposes, Kitai-Gorod is included in this article's district list of Central Administrative Okrug, but is excluded from the total count.
