Administrative Region of Dubăsari

Administrative Region of Dubăsari (Russian: Dubossary) is an administrative region in Transnistria. The population of its capital Dubăsari was at 34,000 in 1989. The current population is estimated at around half that number. Its geographical location is . The name of the town is derived from the word "dubas", which means a boat.
Unlike other cities in Transnistria, Dubasari is a city with a Romanian population exeeding 50%, while Ukrainians and Russians represent large minorities. As early as 1990, it was the scene of fighting over Transnistria's independence. In the 1992 War of Transnistria it was, along with Bender, the scene of some of the heaviest fighting.
