Activated Ministries

Activated Ministries is a Family International-operated charitable foundation based in Escondido, California (EIN 33-0857142). Their stated goal is to share God's word with others through the distribution of Christian outreach materials and providing support to Christian missionaries. In particular, Activated Ministries supports missionary and outreach efforts of The Family International/Children of God new religious movement.

Activated Ministries was incorporated as a California religious non-profit organization in March, 1999 and received Federal 501(c)3 tax exempt status in September 1999. According to the founding documents of Activated Ministries, its nonprofit purpose is:
To share God's Word with others; to strengthen believers by giving them instruction in the Bible, and equipping them for Christian service; to help strengthen families and children by promoting and teaching the strong moral values and character-building principals of the Bible; to promote and support Christian evangelization, both locally and around the world, and to improve the quality of life of those less fortunate through the support of missionary projects.
[edit] Programs of Activated Ministries
According to the organization's listing on GuideStar, Activated Ministries' programs include support for Family International missionary outreach in the United States & Canada, providing teaching materials and Christian magazines, books and other resources for use in their ministries. These resources include the Family International's monthly Activated magazine which includes Bible studies and lessons on faith, prayer, witnessing and other principals relating to spiritual life and service; inspirational and instructional books to help readers develop their personal relationship with God; and video and audio tapes designed to inspire faith and promote the principals of a Christ-based life. The Food and Raiment Program provides weekly food distribution to needy individuals, families and local non-profits to supplement their ministries. Shoes and clothes are also shipped to missionary outreach programs overseas. Telephone Outreach, counseling and prayer lines/online outreach handle an estimated 6000 individuals annually calling for counseling, prayer and Christian fellowship.

Directors and Officers of Activated Ministries include:
Thomas Hack, President: Tom Hack has been active in missionary work since 1975 as a member of The Family International and has worked extensively throughout the Far East and South America with the administration and coordination of field projects and the establishing of evangelistic centers throughout these regions. Mr. Hack has served as President and CEO of Activated Ministries since its founding in 1999. He is a high-ranking Family International officer and former director of the Family-operated Family Care Foundation (FCF).
Cassandra Mooney, Vice President: Ms. Mooney has served as a member of the Activated Ministries Board of Directors since the organization was formed in March of 1999. She has been a member of The Family International since 1972 and has been involved in missions in Europe, the Middle East, South America and India.
Valorie Wells Davenport: Ms. Davenport has been on the board of Activated Ministries since 2001. She is the sister of Family International member Jeff Wells and from 1995 until 2001, represented Family members in an unsuccessful wrongful death suit (related to a July 1995 car accident) they filed against the City of Austin (Texas), Travis County (Texas) and others.[1] She is an attorney, and the founder of Davenport Legal Group, Houston, Texas (1988). She has been licensed to practice law in Texas since 1984. She is also licensed in the (Texas area) federal district and appellate courts, as well as in the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Davenport is a noted area trial lawyer, having practiced extensively in the area of Constitutional rights and civil liberties, environmental pollution, corporate and attorney fraud, and protecting children’s rights. She has also taught at the University of Houston Law School, as well as lectured for the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Trial Lawyers.
Denise Novotny, Treasurer: Ms. Novotny joined the Activated Ministries Board of Directors in November 2005, as Treasurer. Along with Ms. Davenport, Novotny represented Family members an unsuccessful wrongful death suit (related to a July 1995 car accident) they filed against the City of Austin (Texas), Travis County (Texas) and others.[2] She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston, with a major in Accounting. She also has a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the South Texas College of Law. Ms. Novotny is currently licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and has a small litigation firm in Houston, Texas.
