Action Zone Wrestling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Action Zone Wrestling (AZW) is a professional wrestling promotion based in Hawaii that was started in May 2005. AZW quickly became a popular wrestling promotion in Hawaii. Wanting not to be confused with other promotions in Hawaii which have failed or struggled AZW developed new wrestlers (Johnny Kealoha, Mark Anarchy, Pure Luck, The Rage, Jet Akuma and Cheap Heat) and mixed them in with veterans of the Hawaii indy scene ("Hotstuff" Kris Kavanaugh, DDB, AkuA, "Rock Hard" Rocko Shinoda, "The Rocker" Don Lee). It's currently the only promotion in Hawaii with a weekly televison show.

"The Rocker" Don Lee, who retired in January 2006 due to a neck injury, became the first AZW Commissioner on March 13, 2006. AZW recently celebrated their one year anniversary with back to back shows on May 31st and June 1st, 2006.

AZW made history when they signed the first-ever meeting between James Gibson and AJ Styles.

On October 5th, 2006, AZW held it's event called "Anything Goes". The event featured matches picked by the fans, which is much akin to World Wrestling Entertainment's RAW Brand ppv Taboo Tuesday (now referred to as Cyber Sunday). It was a legit drawing that saw several interesting match ups. Also on the event was an impromptu "MMA match" in which former Icon Sport middleweight champion Jason "Mayhem" Miller defeated DDB via tapout due to armbar.
